HEAL Society Announces University of Lagos as New Global Secretariat

HEAL Society is proud to officially announce the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as the new home of the HEAL Society Global Secretariat.

This marks a major milestone in HEAL’s growth from a student-led initiative primarily rooted in Nigeria, to a rapidly expanding movement now active across over 100 universities, spanning multiple countries and continents.

The Global Secretariat will serve as HEAL Society’s central coordination hub, supporting the governance, operations, partnerships, and strategic direction of HEAL across all active chapters worldwide.

Why the Global Secretariat Matters

As HEAL continues to expand, the need for stronger systems, clearer coordination, and a stable operational base has become increasingly important.

The Global Secretariat is designed to:

  • Strengthen HEAL’s internal structure and leadership systems
  • Improve chapter support and engagement across regions
  • Drive better documentation, reporting, and accountability
  • Coordinate global partnerships and institutional collaborations
  • Serve as a central point for HEAL Society’s long-term growth and sustainability

In essence, the Secretariat becomes HEAL’s administrative home, supporting the Society not just as a community, but as a growing institution.

Why University of Lagos (UNILAG)?

The decision to establish the HEAL Society Global Secretariat at the University of Lagos reflects both strategic positioning and long-term vision.

UNILAG sits at the heart of Lagos, a city widely recognized as Nigeria’s most active ecosystem for:

  • Youth innovation and civic leadership
  • Health systems engagement
  • Partnerships and development opportunities
  • Media visibility and institutional influence

By locating the Secretariat at UNILAG, HEAL Society is better positioned to strengthen collaborations, increase access to institutional networks, and expand opportunities for both HEAL and SRHIN (our parent organization).

Acknowledging HEAL Society OAU

As we step into this new phase, we also recognize and deeply appreciate HEAL Society Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), which served as HEAL’s first-ever national secretariat.

The foundation built at OAU helped shape the culture, structure, and identity that HEAL Society stands on today. The legacy remains permanent.

A New Phase of Growth for HEAL Society

The establishment of the Global Secretariat at UNILAG is more than a location change, it represents a shift into a new era.

An era where HEAL Society is building:

  • A stronger governance framework
  • A more accountable leadership pipeline
  • Better systems for chapter growth and support
  • Greater global visibility and collaboration
  • A lasting movement that outlives any cohort

Looking Ahead

As HEAL Society continues to grow across regions, the Secretariat will remain a key part of our operational backbone, ensuring that our expansion remains structured, sustainable, and deeply rooted in impact.

We are excited for what this step unlocks, and we look forward to building the future of HEAL Society together.

Once a HEALer, Always a HEALer.
